IMPLEMENTED PROJECTS AND PROGRAMMES
“Initiatives for establishment of the School for Young Ecologists”
Regional initiative: EA “Izgrev” is coordinator and partner organizations are: S.O.S.-Kumanovo; “Natira”-Lipkovo; “Drom”-Kumanovo and USMRO-RO Kumanovo-Staro Nagoricane.

Results:
- A Group of 30 young educated ecologists is created in the region of Kumanovo – Sveti Nikole – Lipkovo and Staro Nagoricane.
- 6 workshops are organized regarding to the environmental issues.
- Eco-quiz and visits of the important environmental places and institutions are conducted.
- An Auction of gifts is organized and a Regional Youth Forum is established.
- Prepared promotion material – “School for Young Ecologists”.
“To initiate a procedure for bringing a
Volunteerism Development Plan in Macedonia”
National initiative: EA “Izgrev” is coordinator and partner organizations are: S.O.S.–Kumanovo; Youth Cultural center-Bitola; ORT-Skopje; Arka-Kumanovo and Multikultura-Tetovo.
Involved Team of external collaborators and the International Center for not-profit Law.

Results:
- Conducted a poll regarding the volunteerism in Macedonia.
- Organized wider public campaign for volunteerism concept promotion and distribution of the printed material – leaflet and poster “VOLUNTEER – WHY NOT!”
- Organized numerous meetings and contacts with the involved and other interested organizations, institutions and individuals.
- There is a network of organizations that are recognizable by their active role in development of the volunteerism in Macedonia.
- There is data base about these organization and their activities.
- Draft Volunteerism Development Plan in Macedonia is created and distributed. The process of collection opinions and suggestion is going on. There is also support from the local and national authorities.
“Towards the Future with a Sustainable Agriculture”

Implementation period: January – September, 2005

Supported by the Regional environmental centre for Central and Eastern Europe with the support by the Europe Aid European Commission Cooperation Office
Results:
- Public awareness is raised among the agricultural producers from the regions about their role in the rational utilization of the natural resources and environmental protection of the regions Ovce Pole and Radovis.
- Data base about the opportunities and potentials for organic processing and production is established and it is updating.
- 4 local roundtables, 12 meetings and a poll among the inhabitants from the two of the regions are organized.
- A List of 80 interested agricultural producers is created.
- There are 4 selected farms that are implementing the technique production of organic manure using Californian worms in the region of Ovce Pole. In region of Radovish there are 4 farms were irrigation system “drop by drop” is implementing.
- The results from these activities are systematized in the Analysis of the contributions – environmental, economic and social.
- Printed material is created and distributed – leaflet and “Introducer to Sustainable Agriculture”.
- The usage of the mineral fertilizers is decreased or excluded and this is decreasing the products` prices.
- There is an open possibility for long – term use of the implemented techniques.
- There is opportunity for association of the producers in order to close the organic production cycle and finding common investments.
- There are open possibilities for introduction of the alternative environmentally friendly practices, also important for the rural economic development – support and promotion of the production, of the regions and alternative tourism forms.
- Public awareness is increased that the care about the natural recourses and wealth is important not just for the environment, but as well as for the general communities progress.
EA “Izgrev” participated in the realization of the following initiatives:
- “Osogovo eco-region”-coordinator organization is Citizens` Committee for Development-Probistip
- “Application of the sustainable development concept in the municipalities in Republic of Macedonia”-coordinator organization is Citizens environmental forum-Skopje
- “Pavements are for the walkers”-coordinator organization is Proaktiva-Skopje
- “Vote for the nature”-national campaign organized by the group of ecological NGOs and supported by the Milieukontakt.
- “Initiatives for legislation and public awareness raising about GMO in Republic of Macedonia”-coordinator organization is The ecologists` movement of Macedonia
“Creating sustainable solutions for elimination of the illegal landfills through implementation of the Aarhus convention”

Results:
- Public is informed about the solid waste situation in municipality of Sveti Nikole by distribution of leaflets, two volumes of the newsletter “D-r OA for PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF SVETI NIKOLE”, taking opinion polls of the public, taking opinion polls in the business sector, meetings with the citizens from local government units, meetings in the 4 bigger villages, TV shows and articles on the eco-billboard.
- City Committee for preparation of the Solid waste management strategy in municipality of Sveti Nikole was established.
- Solid waste management strategy for Sveti Nikole municipality was adopted by the Municipal council on October 31, 2003 .
- The signing of the Memorandum for co-operation between the local government and local NGOs is in process.
“Old photographs as means for fundraising eco-workshops”

Implementation period: November - December, 2003

Results:
- 900 old photographs were collected.
- The monograph “Sveti Nikole and its citizens through photographs” was published.
- The most impressive 30 photographs were prepared for the selling exposition.
- 20 000 MKD were realized as a result of the selling exposition.
- 20 eco-workshops are organized for the young activists.
”Auction of gifts prepared in Eco-workshop”
Team for realization: Members of EDI - Youth and professional collaborators
Aim: To provide active and creative engagement of the pupil's free time
Period of realization: December, 2003
Results:
- 73 useful things were prepared by using solid waste and natural materials.
- An auction of items was held with 50 participants.
- Collected financial means were 7.000,00 MKD.
- There is a realization of new eco-workshop.
“Aarhus family in Macedonia ”
National initiative - EA “Izgrev” is a partner organization; “ Biosphere”- Bitola (coordinator organization) and other partner organizations are “Proaktiva”- Skopje , EKO.NET-Skopje, Erina-Skopje and “ Ekoenergija”-Kavadarci
Period of realization: June-September, 2004

Results:
- National coalition of NGO's working on the implementation of the Aarhus convention in the Republic of Macedonia is established.
- A cooperation is established with the local information centres in the local self-government and MOEPP about using information and communication technology.
- EKO.NET team created special web site about the Aarhus convention in Macedonia www.eko.net.mk/aarhus.
- There is permanent information exchange with similar regional networks in CEE through the following web site: www.see.environment-info.
- The evaluation seminar was held, where the follow-up activities were defined.
“Rural ethnical networking”
Regional initiative - EA “Izgrev” is a partner organization; S.O.S.-Kumanovo (coordinator organization) and other partner organizations are Natira-Lipkovo, CZR Drom-Kumanovo and USMRO-RO Kumanovo Staro Nagorichane.
Period of realization: June-October, 2004
Financially supported by European centre for minority issues-Skopje
Results:
- Created data base for the rural and cultural values for the municipalities Sveti Nikole, Kumanovo, Lipkovo and Staro Nagorichane.
- Conducted poll among the representatives from different ethnic communities in the rural areas from Kumanovo region.
- Prepared promotion material- Catalogue and documentary film “Rural ethnical networks” about the selected representative villages: Mustafino, Vince, Matejche, Staro Nagorichane and Mlado Nagorichino.
- Organized special event-promotion evening for presentation of these villages.
- Prepared recommendations for rural development of municipalities Sveti Nikole, Kumanovo, Lipkovo and Staro Nagorichane and analyzed the possibilities and opportunities for a rural informative and ecological center.
Involving the publicity
in solving the problem with the
waste waters in Sveti Nikole

Results:
- The publicity was informed about the solving of the waste waters in
Sveti Nikole through media, press state, leaflet, brochure and exposition
of photo pictures;
- Active participation of interested citizens for solving the waste
waters through direct contacts, green telephone, green post box, TV
and radio shows, roundtables,..., was established;
- A regular office working was organized;
- A coalition of the NGOs from Sveti Nikole for solving the priority
ecological problems was formed, for the first time, on 13th November,
1997;
- An expert analysis for the pollution of the Sveti Nikole's River
and the wells near by the river bank was conducted;
- Draft programme ,,Ways for solving the waste waters in Sveti Nikole"
was prepared;
- Cooperation with the local self-government was established:
- Municipality Council adopted the Draft programme of the EA ,,Izgrev";
- Sanction of the river bank was conducted by the Public Communal Enterprise
and NGOs and
- Communal Fund started with the preparedness for the revitalization
of the existing sewage treatment station for fecal waters.
Involving the publicity
in the protection
of the forest fund in Sveti Nikole

Results: 
- The publicity was informed about the forest fund and field protective
zones in Sveti Nikole through: leaflets: ,,For better tomorrow";
,,If you want to destroy a nation-destroy its woods" and ,,When
the woods are burning the nature's heart stops beating", brochure:
Field protective zones - Ovce Pole's woods in the nature's heart ",
TV and radio shows, articles in the eco-pano;
- The project was supported by the local NGOs;
- The Regional roundtable "Importance, sustaining and protection
of the field protective zones" was organized;
- Involvement of the Ecologist's Movement of Macedonia which directed
"Protest against food cutting" through the national media
at its seventh Assembly;
- A meeting with the Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry
and Water management was required and it was realized with the Vice-Minister
of the above Ministry;
- A literature and art competition on the theme: "For the real
people, any tree is a tree of life" was organized;
- A cleaning action of the picnic place Gursite and eco-quiz with 120
young participants from the municipality was realized;
- A competition "The best arranged green area in the town"
and a cooperation with the Public Communal Enterprise were realized;
- A transcribe with the national authorities for legal protection of
the field protective zones (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water
management, Ministry of urbanism, building and environment protection)
was realized;
- Foresting of some parts of the city was organized and
- A pettition to the Main republic inspector for the environment was
sent concerning the manager of the Food management, because of the cutting
of the field protective zones.
Campaign for the protection of the field protective zones

Movement of Macedonia and Pro Natura
Results: 
- A poll with 1000 citizens in order to notice the need of field protective
zones was conducted;
- Educative poster "Field protective zones";
- Amateur film "Field protective zones" (Descriptive report);
- Involvement of the citizens who participated in the planting of the
field protective zones in 1956;
- Photo exposition was organized;
A transcribe with the national authorities for legal protection of the
field protective zones was realized;
- Support from several Ministries was recieved, but there was not any
interest for cooperation from the appropriate once;
- A requirement for legal protection of the field protective zones to
the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water management, Ministry
of urbanism, building and environment protection and to the Prime-Minister
was sent;
- Educative lectures in the schools were taught and informative speeches
on the local television TV Svet and
- A meeting with the interested parties, agricultural producers, stock
raisers and agricultural institutions was organized.

Preparation of the Local
Ecological Action Plan
for municipality Sveti Nikole
Team for realization:

Results:
- A promotional initiative meeting with the citizens for the LEAP was
realized;
- Citizen and Expert Committee was formed;
- Agreements for cooperation with the local self government, business
sector and NGOs were signed;
- The public was informed about the environment and duration of the
project through the local and national TV and radio and articles at
the eco-pano;
- A poll with 2000 citizens about the environment of the municipality
and the ecological priorities was conducted;
- A telephone poll with 250 citizens telephone on the question: "Do
you use drinking water from the city waterworks?" was conducted;
- Data base for the current situation in the municipality and a vision
were created;
- The ecological priorities in the municipality were determinated;
- 2000 leaflets and 1000 paper bags about the LEAP were printed and
distributed;
- Literature and art competitions on the theme: "Sveti Nikole in
2010" were organized;
- Two roundtables "Ionic and unionic radiations in our region"
and "Quality and quantity of water drinking" were organized;
- Public debate for the "Draft LEAP for municipality Sveti Nikole"
was organized;
- Adoption of the LEAP for municipality Sveti Nikole by the Municipality
Council on 29th March, 2000 and
- Promotion of the LEAP for municipality Sveti Nikole
Implementation of the Local

- A review of the LEAP by the initiative group was carried out;
- An analysis of the current implementation of the LEAP in the municipality
was executed;
- Organizational structure for the project was created;
- Memorandums of understanding with the members of the Coordinative
body, conductors and members of the working groups were signed;
- The public through leaflet, TV spot, newsletters, articles at the
eco-pano and documentary film was informed;
- The criteria for the priority actions for 2001 were confirmed;
- Draft plan and budget for the implementation of the LEAP was created;
- Plan for the implementation of the LEAP by the Municipality Council
was adopted;
- Adviser to the Mayor of the municipality Sveti Nikole for ecology
and protection of the environment-member of the EA "Izgrev"
was designated;
- Team for monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the LEAP,
by the Mayor of the municipality Sveti Nikole was designated and
- Evaluation of the implementation of the LEAP was executed.

- The public was informed about the ,,Introduction of the Regional Environmental

- The public was informed through web-site (www.edi.org.mk) and local
and national media, brochure "Civil society in the Regional Environmental
Reconstruction Programme" and seven numbers of newsletters for
the project.

Results:
- Data base for the agriculture in the region Ovce Pole was created;
- The possibilities for the organic agriculture in the region Ovce Pole
were promoted;
- The public awareness for the organic agriculture on the consumers
and producers was increased to the level of interest;
- A part of the partners and participants was identified;
- Agricultural associations and other NGOs were involved;
- Self-evaluation process was realized and
- The concept "A Product from My Farm" was created.
Planned activities for 2002:
- Training of consultants for organic agriculture techniques;
- Introduction of the organic agriculture to the producers and their
training for production of organic manure;
- Establishing interest groups of producers and consumers for the organic
agriculture;
- Preparation and distribution of the educative materials (leaflet,
newsletters, ...);
- Media campaign about the products according to the IFOAM standards;
- Development of the concept "A Product from My Farm";
- Realization of the pilot ticket for "A Product from My Farm"
and
- Marketing training.

Revitalization of the primary school yard of "Sveti Kiril
i Metodij"
Period of realization: September - December, 2001
Results:
- A 100 gifts from the citizens, business sector and local self-government
were collected;
- A silent and loud Auction of gifts with 120 participants was organized;
- Financial means net mass 42 850 denars were realized and
- 1/3 of the horticultural plan of the primary school "Sveti Kiril
i Metodij" was realized.
